Course Offerings

Introductory Course - 15 hour

This 15-hour program provides an introduction to the basic skills used during the triadic interview. The curriculum includes topics such as interpreting skills, code of ethics, triadic and cross cultural communication skills, medical terminology and professional protocols.

Comprehensive Course - 54 hour

The 54-hour program incorporates the introductory training plus additional competency skills in medical terminilogy, culture and delivery of health care, interpreting in the primary care setting and for pediatric patients, mental health, domestic violence, HIV/AIDS, interpreting during emergency situations, and grief, death and dying. Role playing and medical terminoloty is also incorporated into each session. A 3-hour practicum is required at a health care facility under the supervision of a trained interpreter.
